SCORPIONS' BMG Catalog To Be Sold To UNIVERSAL MUSIC

September 6, 2006

German hard rockers SCORPIONS are among the artists whose BMG Music Publishing catalog is being purchased by Vivendi's Universal Music unit for $2.09 billion.

Paris-based Vivendi said the deal will make Universal the world's leading music publisher.

Vivendi said BMG's catalog includes over a million copyrights, including COLDPLAY, JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE, MAROON 5, CHRISTINA AGUILERA, R KELLY and JUAN GABRIEL. Its extensive catalog ranges from the SCORPIONS and BARRY MANILOW to PUCCINI and RAVEL.

"The acquisition of BMG Music Publishing is a unique opportunity to grow our music publishing business and enhance the value of Universal Music Group at a time when the music market is improving, supported by technological innovations and digital sales," said Vivendi chief Jean-Bernard Levy.
